Romeo, Michigan — Detroit City Football Club claims another three points, this time on the road, as they traveled up to Romeo, Michigan, and defeated Union FC Macomb 2-1. A goal from Romine in the 20th minute put DCFC ahead early, and Ella Kane scored the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute.
Early on in this matchup, Detroit City controlled the tempo but struggled to maintain possession in the attacking third. Union Macomb was struggling to get anything going, as turnovers in the midfield were hurting their efforts.
Sophia Romine scored the opener in the 20th minute with a shot from 25 yards out that sneaked into the near post, giving Detroit City the first goal of the match. For Romine, it was a goal in her old stomping grounds, having played at Romeo High School.
Ella Kane would come close to a second for Le Rouge in the 40th minute, as she would take a shot from the top of the box, which would hit the crossbar and go out of play.
Just before halftime, Mira Webster was subbed on for Maia Soulis.
Coming out of the break, it was more of the same for Le Rouge, as they continued to pressure the Macomb back line. Sophia Romine tested her luck again in the 48th minute, as she took a shot from just outside the box, which forced the keeper into a diving save.
Abby Smothers came close in the 56th minute as her shot from just inside the box forced the Macomb keeper to make an incredible diving save.
A double change for Le Rouge came in the 62nd minute as Drew Martin and Camryn Evans entered the match as Abby Smothers and Hannah Crum exited.
One final change for Detroit came in the 68th minute as Sophia Enwright entered the match for Tatiana Mason.
Off a counter attacking opportunity in the 81st minute, Union Macomb sneaked a ball past Allison Lapoint, leveling the game at 1-1. For Lapoint and Le Rouge, it was the first goal conceded since the opening match at AFC Ann Arbor.
A corner kick in the 85th minute allowed Detroit another opportunity to reclaim its lead. Sophia Romine drove the corner into the box, falling to Acadia Murphy, who passed it to Ella Kane right at the near post, and she tapped it in to give Le Rouge the 2-1 lead.
With the victory, Detroit now sits level with AFC Ann Arbor in the Great Lakes Division on 13 points.
