DETROIT— Detroit City Football Club claimed another three points on Saturday evening in a 1-0 victory over Kalamazoo FC. Ella Karolak’s header in the 68th minute would be the difference in this one, as Allison Lapoint claimed her fourth straight clean sheet.
Le Rouge struggled in the opening moments of this match, allowing Kalamazoo to enter the attacking third on multiple occasions with dangerous opportunities. Allison Lapoint was forced into two crucial saves in the opening ten minutes.
Detroit flipped the game’s tempo as the half progressed, dictating possession in the midfield. Sophia Romine created some good opportunities, but nothing found the back of the net as Detroit struggled to find the final touch in the box.
Coming out of the halftime break, the situation was similar to last week, and Detroit City dominated the opening ten minutes following the break. Le Rouge forced three corner kicks in that timespan, heading the ball just over the bar each time.
Detroit made their first changes in the 63rd as Kate Childers, Mira Webster, and Camryn Evans entered the match for Drew Martin, Acadia Murphy, and Hannah Crum.
In the 68th minute, a ball was crossed into the box and took a deflection off the Kalamazoo keeper and fell to Ella Karolak, who put the ball into the back of the net, scoring her first goal for Le Rouge.
The final change for DCFC came in the 75th minute as Emily Pagett entered for Danielle Stephan.
With the victory, Detroit City ranks second in the USL W League Great Lakes division. Le Rouge sits on 10 points, three behind first-place AFC Ann Arbor.
