DETROIT – Detroit City FC is back in USL W League action on Saturday, welcoming longtime Le Rouge foe Kalamazoo FC to historic Keyworth Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The match can be streamed for free on CBSDetroit.com and SportsEngine Play, regardless of location.
After last week’s triple salvo of W League matches at home, Le Rouge comes into Saturday’s contest against Kalamazoo FC on seven days of rest. In contrast, Kalamazoo FC took the pitch on Wednesday evening, defeating Toledo Villa FC 6-2 at home.
Last time Detroit City FC took the pitch in the USL W League, the squad defeated Midwest United FC, 2-0, thanks to a second-half brace from forward Hannah Crum. It started only a few minutes from the halftime interval, as Crum cleverly fought her way into an opportunity on the goalline. Then, just a few minutes later, Crum curled in a beauty of a shot from about 25 yards out to make it 2-0.
With this win, Detroit City FC improved to 2-1-1 on the season and leaped to second place in the Great Lakes Division behind the pacesetters, AFC Ann Arbor.
Kalamazoo FC comes into Saturday’s meeting with a record of 2-0-2 and a goal differential of +4, good enough for third place in the division. Both of Kalamazoo’s wins have come against Toledo Villa FC, while their losses have come against strong Union FC Macomb and Midwest United FC sides.
Detroit City FC and Kalamazoo FC have a long history of playing each other across leagues. Le Rouge and Kalamazoo FC first faced off in the 2016 NPSL men’s season, and would play each other in the NPSL each season up to 2019. These two sides first met in the women’s game in the 2022 USL W League season. In the NPSL, Detroit City FC played to a record of 4-1-3 against Kalamazoo and a record of 2-3-1 in the USL W League.
