DETROIT— Detroit City Football Club takes home another three points in a 2-0 victory over Midwest United FC on Saturday night. A Hannah Crum second-half brace would lead Le Rouge to their second consecutive victory, and their third clean sheet in the past seven days.
It was a difficult half for the attacking sides on both teams, as both backlines put up an incredible performance to prevent anything from getting going in the final third. The first shot on target of the game wouldn’t come until the 17th minute on an Ella Kane shot.
Detroit grew into the game as the first half progressed, but struggled to find the final touch in the box to score the opening goal. With that, the two sides would go into the break still level at 0-0
It wouldn’t take long into the second half for the game’s opening goal to be found. In the 49th minute, Hannah Crum found the opener as her initial shot was deflected off the keeper, and she capitalized on the rebound, putting it into the back of the net.
Crum would strike again nine minutes later, in the 58th minute. She took a shot from at least 25 yards out, which curled and found the top left corner of the net, giving Detroit a 2-0 lead.
Le Rouge’s first changes of the night came in the 71st minute, as Kayla Addison, Tatiana Mason, and Mira Webster entered the match for Danielle Stephan, Kate Childers, and Hannah Crum.
Detroit continued pressing for a third goal, but Midwest United’s substitutions put more emphasis on the back line, making it more difficult for Le Rouge to get anything going.
A double change for Le Rouge came in the 78th minute, as Emily Pagett and Drew Martin entered the match for Sophia Romine and Abigail Smothers.
Detroit made one more change as Camryn Evans entered the match for Ella Kane.
Detroit claimed a massive three points in the Great Lakes Division, as the win saw Le Rouge jump into second place in the division on seven points, three points behind first-place AFC Ann Arbor.
