DCFC is pleased to announce Detroit City Fieldhouse has been chosen as a recipient of a Motor City Match grant award of $40,000.
The grant will go directly toward the ongoing renovations inside the facility, including the installation of new turf on two athletic fields, upgraded energy-efficient LED lighting and other general improvements to make the Fieldhouse one of the top indoor facilities in the region and an asset to our community.
In early January 2018, Detroit City FC announced its plans to renovate the former City Sports Center at 3401 E Lafayette Street. The 75,000 square-foot indoor facility located in Detroit will serve as an affordable and accessible playing space for the Detroit soccer community.
“We’re extremely honored to be chosen as a Motor City Match recipient and join the list of local organizations making a positive impact in Detroit,” DCFC co-owner Todd Kropp said. “This award will allow us to create the premier athletic facility that we have envisioned for our city.”
Since the program was launched two years ago, Motor City Match has distributed $5 million in grant funds to businesses opening in Detroit’s neighborhood commercial corridors, 78% of which are minority-owned.
Demo work on the Detroit City Fieldhouse is underway, with the facility projected to open for business by September 2018.
Motor City Match is also assisting Detroit City Fieldhouse in partnering with community lending programs that are helping to put together a financing package that will help make DCFC’s vision a reality.
On behalf of everyone at DCFC, we would like to thank Motor City Match, Mayor Mike Duggan and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) for supporting our collective goals of building stronger neighborhoods and promoting healthy, active lifestyles for kids and adults.
