After the despicable theft of youth sporting equipment from MACC Development, Detroit City FC is proud to announce its support of the Detroit non-profit, which serves children and families on the east side of Detroit, to raise the funds necessary to replace the stolen gear.
Two weeks ago, it was discovered that MACC Development’s 8 foot by 12 foot trailer filled with sports equipment was stolen. The trailer enables MACC Development to operate its MACC Sports program, which serves more than 300 Detroit youth each year – 150 of which participate in the youth soccer program.
The trailer was filled with uniforms, soccer balls, goal posts, cleats, shin-guards, and additional gear for its youth participants. Without the trailer, MACC’s soccer program, which begins in Spring 2018, is in jeopardy. Its basketball program, which begins in January 2018, will not be able to start without the means to transport equipment.
Ezekiel Harris, Executive Director of MACC Development, is an alumni of Detroit City FC, playing for the club from 2012 to 2014. In 2015, he transitioned to be the club’s first-ever analyst for DCFC’s game broadcasts.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Harris serves as a Knight Foundation Emerging City Champion, and has previously served as a Challenge Detroit senior fellow. Prior to being named Executive Director for MACC, he worked with United Way of Southeastern Michigan. Now, as one of the youngest executive directors in Detroit’s non-profit sector, he is creating sustainable, impactful change on Detroit’s eastside.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Zeke, and we have been truly inspired by his transition from the field to a leader on the ground in our community,” DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said. “MACC Development plays a vital role in community development, as well as the lives of neighborhood youth, and we’re glad to step up and support this community during this season of giving and reflection.”
MACC Development needs to raise $12,000 to replace its stolen trailer and sports equipment. Detroit City FC will match the first $5,000 raised between Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 28.
“It’s such a blessing to see how our community has mobilized around this heartbreaking event, our team puts so much of their time and energy into each of our programs and I’d hate to see us not be able to interact with our neighbors through soccer next year,” said Ezekiel Harris, Executive Director of MACC Development.
