Detroit City FC alum Evan Louro has signed a professional Homegrown Player contract with New York Red Bulls, the MLS team announced today.
Louro only featured in one regular season match with Le Rouge – a 2-2 draw in City’s NPSL opener at Michigan Stars FC – but he was the Man of the Match in Detroit’s U.S. Open Cup first round victory against PDL side Michigan Bucks on May 12, 2016.
Louro made thirteen saves in the match, with two decisive saves coming during the penalty kick shootout, which City won, 4-3.
A native of South River, N.J., Louro finished his three-year University of Michigan career with 46 appearances, 4,248 minutes played and a 1.17 goals against average. He recorded a career-best 1.05 goals allowed average in his sophomore year, which ranks No. 2 in single-season program history.
Louro is the second player on City’s 2016 team to head to MLS, as he joins Danny Deakin (South Carolina), who was selected No. 64th overall by Orland City SC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
