Detroit, MI – Detroit City FC is excited to announce a new partnership with United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
The new partnership will put an emphasis on United Way’s leadership of the “Michigan No Kid Hungry” initiative through the Meet Up and Eat Up platform. Thanks to collaborative efforts between United Way for SE Michigan and Michigan No Kid Hungry, 1.45 million meals were served at Meet Up and Eat Up sites throughout Metro Detroit in 2013 at 580 different sites. To kickoff the 2014 Meet Up and Eat Up campaign, the organizations will be hosting multiple block parties around the city, with the big kick-off event scheduled for June 30th at Peterson Playfield. As part of United Way’s new partnership with DCFC, they will be the presenting sponsor for June 29th’s home match vs. the Indiana Fire to help promote the kick-off event being held the next day in the city.
The block parties are fun community events that give parents and caregivers a chance to sample Meet Up and Eat Up meals and also bring wrap-around services like health and educational enrichment to families that attend. Block parties have a variety of kid and family-friendly entertainment like bounce houses and face painting as well. The schedule for the block parties is listed below and all July dates include player appearances from Detroit City FC where they’ll be supporting the Meet Up and Eat up initiatives by interacting with kids and providing autographs and pictures for attendees as well.

“We started Detroit City FC out of a passion for our city and as a way to give back,” stated Detroit City FC co-owner Sean Mann. “It is a true honor to work with a well respected organization like United Way of Southeast Michigan to reach kids across Detroit and promote healthy lifestyles. In our minds, this represents sports at its finest.”
Zafar Razzacki, VP of Marketing for United Way of SE Michigan, worked closely with Pakmode Media + Marketing to spearhead the new partnership agreement with DCFC and couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come. “Meet Up and Eat Up is more than just a meal program, it’s a movement of individuals and organizations that believe that no kid should go hungry. We’re excited to begin working with Detroit City FC to continue to raise awareness and to connect kids with the DCFC players who are great role models for Detroit’s youth,” Said Razzacki.
The Director of the Michigan No Kid Hungry initiative, Sara Gold, is thrilled about the new partnership saying, “Partnering with Detroit City FC is not only helping us get the word out about Meet Up and Eat Up in a new innovative way, but also connecting two issues we know go hand in hand to help kids in Detroit reach their full potential – nutrition and physical activity.”
