Detroit City FC II is making history.
Le Rouge’s second team punched its ticket to the UPSL National Round of 16 with a dramatic 3-2 victory over KS Wisloka Chicago in the Round of 32, marking the deepest postseason run in team history.
“We’re incredibly proud of this group and the way they’ve competed all season,” said Head Coach Brad Dunwell. “To reach this stage is a reflection of their commitment, their growth, and the standard they’ve set for each other every day. Now the focus is on continuing that momentum at home, where we’re ecstatic for the chance to have a special Keyworth experience.”
The milestone result builds on a dominant regular season, where DCFC II finished first in the UPSL Midwest East with a 7-2-1 record. The squad led the conference in goals scored (35) while conceding just 12, boasting a +23 goal differential that underscored their balance on both ends of the pitch.
Under the leadership of Dunwell, alongside Assistant Coach Hasan Daoud, Goalkeeper Coach/Assistant Mathew Walczowski, and Athletic Trainer Josh Eddy, the group has blended experience and emerging talent throughout the campaign. First team players Connor Rutz and Ryan Williams also occasionally stepped in to support on the sideline, reinforcing the club-wide commitment to development.
That pathway has been on full display. DCFC II features a mix of USL Academy signings, including Bilal Obeid and Zain Elder, alongside contributors with first team experience such as Jack Streberger, Peyton Trask, Cade Priestap, and Lucas Yessayan, who stepped up in the Santos Laguna friendly match last year. The roster is further strengthened by a strong core of Detroit City Youth Academy players, including Anteneh Berhan, Diego Vargas, Gio Hernandez, Ali Dabaja, Bashar Othman, Waleed Alhiyafi, Sam Moyer.
Next up: a chance to keep the run alive at home.
DCFC II will host its UPSL National Round of 16 matchup vs FCY New York this Saturday, July 11 at Keyworth Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM. Admission is free, offering supporters an opportunity to back the next wave of Le Rouge as they chase a place in the national quarterfinals.
