Detroit City FC’s USL W League side returns to Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, May 23, hosting Kalamazoo FC in the 2026 home opener as Le Rouge kicks off a new campaign in the Great Lakes Division.
W League Context
This season marks the fifth edition of the W League’s modern era, with 96 clubs competing across 16 divisions over a packed three‑month campaign. The standard across the league continues to rise as programs chase spots in the national bracket.
Detroit City has firmly inserted itself into that conversation. In the league’s preseason Power Rankings, Le Rouge checked in at No. 7, recognized for topping the competitive Great Lakes Division in each of the past two seasons and reaching the national semifinals in 2024 before an early exit in 2025.
Early into the 2026 season, Detroit’s stock has held. A 2-1 opening‑night victory at AFC Ann Arbor kept City in the top ten of the league’s Week 2 Power Rankings, with the league noting the high expectations around a side that has “established itself as one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Division in recent years.”
The Evans era begins
Saturday’s home opener also marks Dani Evans’ first match at Keyworth as newly appointed head coach, the third head coach in the history of the Detroit City FC women’s team.
Evans has already established herself as an elite tactical mind within the club, transforming the DCFC Women’s Arena side into a national powerhouse with three straight MASLW playoff berths and a recent trip to the national semifinals.
She takes charge of a W League squad she knows well, supported by a staff that includes Makenna Mascaro, Becky Ansell, Justin Hunter, Adam Spinks, Scottie Wloszek, and David Dwaihy.
Roster
Dani Evans will look to blend a strong returning core with new faces across all three lines, led by new captain Hannah Crum in midfield.
Crum returns as the heartbeat of a group that has already proven it can win the Great Lakes Division and compete deep into the national tournament, now tasked with pushing Le Rouge back toward another playoff run.
The full W League roster can be found here.
Home advantage
Detroit City will look to build on its recent W League success by turning Keyworth back into one of the most difficult places to play in the division.
With divisional opponents packed into a compact calendar, every point at Keyworth could prove decisive in the push for the top of the Great Lakes Division table and a return to postseason contention.
Supporters will get an early look at how Evans’ side balances a veteran core and emerging talent as Le Rouge settles into its home form over four June fixtures in Hamtramck.
