Cleveland, Ohio – Detroit City FC is set for a midweek matchup on the road to Cleveland Force SC on Wednesday evening at Krenzler Field as the squad looks to extend its lead at the top of the Great Lakes Division before hosting Midwest United FC in a huge clash this weekend. Kickoff this evening is set for 7 PM ET.
Le Rouge is fresh off of a dominant 4-1 win over longtime foes AFC Ann Arbor at Keyworth Stadium this past Saturday. Detroit City FC controlled the match for all 90′, with AFC Ann Arbor happy to sit deep and let Le Rouge dictate the flow of the match.
It didn’t take long for the match to slip away from the visitors who found themselves down 3-1 at the half thanks to goals from Sophia Romine, Kate Childers, and Faith Webber. Hannah Crum would finish the scoring in the second half from a direct free kick. Romine’s goal was her third of the season, scoring in all three of her matches at Keyworth Stadium so far this season.
This win was Detroit City FC’s fifth of the season, improving to a 5-1-0 record, only allowing two goals so far this season, helping them to the best goal differential in the Great Lakes Division and proving the strength of the backline at the halfway point of the USL W League regular season.
Cleveland Force SC comes into tonight’s match looking to pick up momentum in the second half of the season, currently sitting in 6th place in the Great Lakes Division with a record of 1-0-5, with their only win coming against Michiana Lions who sit bottom of the division.
Last season these two sides met on three occasions, with Detroit City FC earning nine points from nine. David Dwaihy’s first win as a W League head coach came on the road to Cleveland Force last season, 1-0, thanks to a strike from Avery Peters.
