Kalamazoo, Michigan – Detroit City FC is set for a midweek matchup on the road to Kalamazoo FC on Tuesday evening at Mayors’ Riverfront Park as the squad looks to extend its lead at the top of the Great Lakes Division. Kickoff is set for 7 PM ET.
Le Rouge is fresh off of a dominant 1-0 victory over Cleveland Force SC at Keyworth Stadium, despite only scoring once, Detroit City FC only allowed one shot from the visitors throughout the 90’, while getting off over 20 shots of their own. Midfielder Sophia Romine made the difference, with her second strike from distance in two matches.
This win was Detroit City FC’s fourth of the season, improving to a flawless 4-0-0 record, only allowing one goal so far this season, helping them to the best goal differential in the Great Lakes Division and proving the strength of the backline in this early phase of the season.
Kalamazoo FC comes into Tuesday’s match with a record of 3-1-2, good enough for 1.67 Points Per Match and 4th in the division. Their wins have been emphatic, coming over Michiana Lions (3-0), Cleveland Force (4-1), and Flint City AFC (4-0). They have only dropped points to teams in the top three of the division, losing to Midwest United FC and AFC Ann Arbor, both by razor-thin margins of 1-0. They also began the season with a 1-1 draw against AFC Ann Arbor.
Last season these two sides met on two occasions with Detroit City FC earning a 2-2 draw at Mayors’ Riverfront Park early in the season before losing to Kalamazoo FC 1-0 at Keyworth Stadium towards the end of the season.
Longtime fans of Detroit City FC will remember Kalamazoo FC from the days in the National Premier Soccer League, Le Rouge faced off against their men’s side between 2016 and 2019. Kalamazoo FC plays at the same stadium that they did in their first encounter with Detroit City FC.
