Brighton, Michigan – Today Le Rouge squared off against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. The two sides played to a 0-0 draw in the closed-door friendly match at the Legacy Sports Complex in Brighton, Michigan.
The match put on display some incredible defensive actions from both teams. Goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher was called into action a handful of times, needing to make crucial saves to keep his clean sheet and his side level in this matchup. This was a result of clever play by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds who often found themselves in deep attacking positions in different phases throughout the match. The match also featured some not-so-friendly moments, this would culminate in Pittsburgh’s Luke Biasi receiving a yellow card near the end of the first half.
Detroit City FC would create a few deadly chances of their own, combining well with the wing backs and midfielders to create space further up the pitch. In the tenth minute of the match Cy Goddard and Skage Simonsen combined well in a sequence which saw the ball end up at the feet of Richard Ballard before the danger was cleared. Simonsen would be involved yet again later in the half, combining with forward Ben Morris who attempted to play a ball across to Simonsen inside of the penalty area but it was poked away at the last possible moment.
Le Rouge found a lot of success in this match through set-piece opportunities, most of which were taken by Cy Goddard who put a lot of balls into dangerous areas that only lacked a decisive final touch.
Detroit City FC will next take the field against Michigan State University on Saturday, February 25 in a closed-door friendly at Keyworth Stadium. This match is closed to the public but we will be providing in-match updates as well as post match video and sound on our social media channels.
