Detroit City FC (DCFC) clinched a spot in the 2026 USL Championship Playoffs with a 3-1 road victory over Brooklyn FC on Wednesday night at Maimonides Park. Le Rouge will now turn its attention to the final stretch of the regular season, with postseason home-field advantage still in play.
Detroit City scored three second-half goals from substitutes Darren Smith, Callum Montgomery, and Kobe Hernández-Foster to earn all three points.
Smith opened the scoring eight minutes after entering at halftime, finishing in the 53rd minute off an assist from Kian Williams, his first assist of the 2026 USL Championship season. The goal was Smith’s 13th of the season, and his first since August 9, 2026.
Brooklyn found an equalizer on a penalty kick from Tommy McNamara in the 70th minute, but Detroit City answered immediately. Ryan Williams set up Montgomery two minutes later, who scored on a header to restore Le Rouge’s lead.
But it was Hernández-Foster with the highlight of the match. Brooklyn’s late corner created an opening for Detroit City’s counterattack. After Le Rouge cleared the danger, Hernández-Foster spotted Brooklyn goalkeeper Jackson Lee pushed forward and launched a long-range effort from deep inside the Detroit half toward the empty net. The ball rolled all the way over the line in the 93rd minute, sealing a 3-1 Detroit City victory with an unorthodox finish supporters will remember for years to come.
Carlos Herrera made three saves in the win. Tommy Silva led Le Rouge with four tackles won, while Rodriguez and Alex Dalou each won three.
