Detroit City FC (DCFC) heads to Maimonides Park for the first time ever on Wednesday night to face USL Championship newcomers Brooklyn FC, as Le Rouge looks to maintain its place in the Eastern Conference’s top three with five matches remaining in the regular season.
Detroit City FC can also clinch a postseason berth with a win; with a draw against Brooklyn and a Miami FC draw or loss against Sporting Club Jacksonville SC; or with a loss at Brooklyn if Miami draws or loses to Jacksonville.
Detroit City FC enters the midweek match third in the Eastern Conference on 41 points through 25 matches – two points ahead of Hartford Athletic, which has played one additional match, and three points clear of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which has played two more. With Charleston Battery six points ahead in second and the race for a top-four finish tightening beneath them, every result carries increasing importance in the push for home-field advantage in the USL Championship Playoffs.
Le Rouge arrives after a scoreless draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, extending its defensive record to 12 clean sheets. Detroit City FC has conceded just 19 goals all season, the fewest in the Championship, and has not allowed more than two goals in a league match. The club’s ability to continue turning defensive control into points away from Keyworth will be central Wednesday night.
Brooklyn enters Wednesday in 12th place in the Eastern Conference at 4-6-15. Brooklyn has not won in its last five matches, most recently falling 4-0 at Birmingham Legion FC. Its 25 goals scored are the fewest among Eastern Conference clubs, while its 49 goals conceded are the most in the conference.
Detroit City FC won the first-ever meeting between the clubs this season, earning a 3-0 victory at Keyworth Stadium on March 14.
