Detroit City FC (DCFC) returns to Keyworth Stadium Saturday night for a late-season interconference matchup with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Both teams enter the match sitting third in their respective conferences.
Detroit City FC enters Saturday in third place in the Eastern Conference following a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh, but the race remains tight behind the conference leaders. Le Rouge sits on 40 points, two clear of both Pittsburgh and Hartford, with each side having played at least one more match. Every point over the final six matches carries added weight in the push for a top-four finish and home-field advantage in the USL Championship Playoffs.
Saturday presents Detroit City FC with an opportunity to clinch its place in the postseason – Le Rouge will secure its spot with a victory over Colorado Springs, which would move the club to 43 points. Detroit can also clinch with a draw, if Miami FC draws or loses at Indy Eleven. Should Detroit fall to Colorado Springs, Le Rouge can still clinch if Miami loses at Indy, as Miami would then be unable to surpass Detroit’s current 40-point total.
Saturday also features two of the Championship’s leading scorers. DCFC’s Darren Smith enters with 12 goals, tied for fourth in the Golden Boot race, while Colorado Springs forward Khori Bennett sits second with 14.
Colorado Springs enters on a four-match unbeaten run, bringing one of the league’s most productive attacks to Keyworth – having scored 40 goals, and totally a league-leading 407 shots. They have been especially dangerous late, scoring 14 times from the 76th minute onward.
That attack will meet one of the league’s most resolute defenses. Detroit City FC has conceded a league-low 19 goals and recorded 11 clean sheets, tied for second-most in the Championship. Le Rouge has been particularly strong at Keyworth, where its defensive organization has helped produce five shutouts in 11 home league matches and allowed just two open play goals all season.
Head to Head
Detroit City FC holds a 3-1 all-time advantage in the series and has won each of the last two meetings, earning 2-1 victories in Colorado Springs in 2024 and 2025. The Switchbacks’ lone win came in a 3-0 result at Keyworth Stadium in September 2023.
Detroit Music Celebration Night
Saturday is Detroit Music Celebration Night at Keyworth Stadium. Motown tunes will provide the soundtrack as soon as gates open, with the final Finnish Long Drink tailgate of the season. The rhythm continues into halftime and beyond, as we celebrate Detroit’s rich music history.
Availability
Connor Rutz, Rafa Mentzingen, Preston Tabort Etaka, and Chisom Egbuchulam are all listed as out for DCFC.
