Detroit City FC earned a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over FC Tulsa on Saturday night at ONEOK Field, with Darren Smith’s second-half finish and Carlos Herrera’s seventh clean sheet of the season securing all three points for Le Rouge.
Smith’s 12th goal of the campaign moves him into sole possession of first place in the USL Championship Golden Boot race, while Herrera is now tied for second among the league’s clean-sheet leaders.
After a scoreless first half, Detroit City broke through in the 51st minute. Aedan Stanley delivered the assist on a beautiful cross to Smith, who finished the chance to give Le Rouge the lead. The goal was Smith’s lone shot of the match, but it made the difference as Detroit City made the most of its limited attacking opportunities.
FC Tulsa controlled much of the ball and produced the greater volume of chances, finishing with 63.7 percent possession, 14 shots, and six corners. Le Rouge’s defensive effort held firm, however, limiting the hosts to only one shot on target despite 19 touches in Detroit City’s penalty area.
Captain Devon Amoo-Mensah and Callum Montgomery anchored Detroit City’s resolute defensive performance at the heart of the back line. The centerback pairing combined to win seven aerial duels and regain possession nine times, helping Le Rouge withstand Tulsa’s 14 shots and limit the hosts to just one effort on target in front of Herrera’s seventh clean sheet of the season.
Detroit City’s victory moves Le Rouge to 31 points and a 9-4-5 record, strengthening its hold on third place in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference. The road result creates further separation from the teams chasing the top three and keeps Detroit firmly in the race for home-field positioning in the postseason.
