Detroit City FC will take to the pitch on Sunday, June 17 in support of United Community Housing Coalition, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive housing assistance to Detroit’s low-income residents.
In recognition of UCHC and its work in our community, DCFC players will wear commemorative jerseys for the June 17th match against Grand Rapids FC. Kickoff for the match at Keyworth Stadium is at 5 PM.
During the match, each participating player’s jersey will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in a silent auction held at the stadium. All proceeds raised from the auction will benefit UCHC.
Since 1973, UCHC has played a crucial, and yet often underappreciated, role in Detroit around landlord tenant legal counseling, housing placement, tenant organizing, and tax and mortgage foreclosure prevention.
Each year, UCHC serves more than 6,000 homeless and at-risk Detroiters, but is set to lose 40 percent of its funding under proposed cuts from the Trump Administration.
With tens of thousands of Detroit residents facing the real threat of losing their homes, Detroit City FC is proud to be a partner in this cause.
Each season, Detroit City FC has a designated charity partner that the club and its supporters raise funds for, as well as whose work they highlight. Past partners have included Alternatives For Girls, Freedom House, Detroit PAL and the Ruth Ellis Center.
“It is an honor to have a chance, however small, to highlight the work UCHC is doing to serve Detroiters that are all too often overlooked,” DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said. “The building block of a successful life is having access to stable housing and UCHC has worked for decades to help countless Detroiters meet this basic human need. Even with all the great news about Detroit’s turnaround, this need is as great as ever.”
“In a city which has enough space for twice its current population, there is no reason for anyone to be homeless or to lose their house,” Michelle Oberholtzer of UCHC said. “We at UCHC work every day to retain homeownership, prevent homelessness, and make sure people’s rights are represented. By helping each other, we keep our neighborhoods and our cities strong. The work is as necessary as ever and these funding cuts will harm our ability to provide critical support, but we will never stop trying.”

Last season, DCFC and its supporters raised a total of $3,500 in support of its 2017 charity partner, Alternatives For Girls.
