DETROIT— Detroit City Football Club takes home its first three points of the USL W League season with a dominating 6-0 victory over Toledo Villa FC. Braces from Kate Childers and Hannah Crum led the match for Le Rouge, with Abby Smothers and Tatiana Mason adding two more goals for Detroit.
The first half conditions made the match difficult for both sides. A steady rain driving down made the pitch difficult to play on and affected most of the attempted passes.
Detroit City opened the scoring early in this match, as Kate Childers took a shot from outside the box, which was deflected into the back of the net off the keeper to give Detroit an early advantage.
Le Rouge would double the advantage just five minutes later. A beautiful pass from Hannah Crum found Abby Smothers on the break, and she broke past two Toledo defenders and got it past the Toledo keeper to double the advantage.
Childers would pick up her second of the evening in the 40th minute. Off a corner driven in by Sophia Romine, she found Childers at the back post, leading Detroit City to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
With the rain slowing to start the second half, it was more of the same pressing attack for Detroit City. Just four minutes into the second half, Hannah Crum increased Detroit’s lead to 4-0, as a ball was flung into the box, and after it got kicked around by the Toledo defenders, Crum got a shot off and found the back of the net.
Detroit’s first sub of the night came in the 59th minute as Elisa Baeron and Alexandra Karolak entered the match for Maia Soulis and Kate Childers.
After the substitution break, Hannah Crum picked up her second goal of the night, giving Detroit a 5-0 lead.
A triple change in the 65th minute saw Kayla Addison, Ava Landstra, and Tatiana Mason enter the match for Hannah Crum, Acadia Murphy, and Abby Werthman.
Detroit’s final changes came in the 69th minute as Allyson Childers and Sophia Morgan entered the match for Mary Karolak and Danielle Stephan.
Tatiana Mason would make it six on the night for Le Rouge, as a beautiful feed from Sophia Romine found Mason on the attack, and she beat the Toledo keeper for the night’s final goal in the 71st minute.
