Defender Rhys Williams is approaching his fourth season with Detroit City FC. Since joining the club prior to its inaugural season in the USL Championship, Williams has become a club centurion, appearing in 106 matches. Over the 7,343 minutes played for Le Rouge, Williams has scored three goals and assisted on six. All three of those goals came in the 2024 season, as two came in back-to-back matches in June, as Williams found the back of the net in a 2-1 loss to Birmingham Legion and a 4-0 win at Miami FC.
Rhys played similar minutes in 2022 and 2023, appearing in all league matches except one each season. Williams played in the midfield most of the season, notching six assists in the two seasons. Throughout his 106 appearances for Detroit, Williams has started in 81 matches.
Prior to joining DCFC, Williams spent the 2021 season with Stumptown AC of the NISA. Williams started in 28 matches throughout 2021, including all 18 during the NISA Fall Season. The defender had three goals in the 2021 calendar year for Stumptown.
The White Plains, New York native played college soccer at Columbia, where he spent all four years and scored seven goals in 49 appearances. Following college, Williams signed with the New York Cosmos B in 2017 before moving on to the Real Monarchs in 2018. After one season in Utah, Rhys came to Michigan for the first time and played the only season in Lansing Ignite history in 2019. After Lansing folded, Williams would stay in USL League One and play the 2020 season with South Georgia Tormenta FC.
