Prior to joining DCFC, Williams spent the 2021 season with Stumptown AC of the NISA. Williams started in 28 matches throughout 2021, including all 18 during the NISA Fall Season. The defender had three goals in the 2021 calendar year for Stumptown.

Following college, Williams signed with the New York Cosmos B in 2017 before moving on to the Real Monarchs in 2018. After one season in Utah, Rhys came to Michigan for the first time and played the only season in Lansing Ignite history in 2019. After Lansing folded, Williams would stay in USL League One and play the 2020 season with South Georgia Tormenta FC.
