Detroit City FC’s newest installment of “Where We Stand” turns its focus to the supporters whose passion for the club has grown into lifelong friendships, chosen family, and a lasting sense of belonging.
“Where We Stand: On Support” follows the Novak family and members of the Northern Guard as they prepare a special tifo to commemorate the groundbreaking of Detroit City FC’s new stadium. As they come together to create something larger than themselves, they reflect on what it truly means to support a soccer club.
Created in collaboration with Uncommon Heights Productions, “Where We Stand” is a monthly storytelling series dedicated to the people, perspectives, and purpose behind Detroit City FC’s future home, AlumniFi Field. Each installment connects the stadium’s physical development with the personal stories that give the project meaning, exploring what this next chapter represents across the locker room, the front office, the stands, and the city.
The series began with “On Dreams,” following captain Devon Amoo-Mensah and exploring the significance of putting down permanent roots for young families. Its second installment, “On Family,” centered on the Cuevas family, a multigenerational household with deep roots in Southwest Detroit. The third film, “On Purpose,” followed co-founder and CEO Sean Mann as he reflected on the club’s unlikely beginnings and the vision that continues to guide it.
“Where We Stand: On Support” carries that storytelling into the supporter community. Preparing the commemorative tifo gives the Novak family and Northern Guard members a shared task, while their reflections reveal the deeper connections behind it: friendships forged through soccer, a chosen family built around the club, and a place where people feel they belong.
The full film, “Where We Stand: On Support,” is now available on the Detroit City FC YouTube channel.
