Detroit City FC emerged from Miami with a point, but the 2-2 draw, after leading at halftime and conceding twice before a stoppage-time equalizer, stands as a disappointing result for Le Rouge.
Detroit City carried their recent form into South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium and opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Alex Dalou fed Maxi Rodriguez on the run, redirecting the finish past a diving Eloy Room to put Le Rouge up 1-0 at the break. Rodriguez’s strike marked his 38th career goal for DCFC, pulling him within five of the club’s all-time leading scorer Shawn Claud-Lawson.
Miami would wrestle Detroit City’s momentum away in the second half when Jürgen Locadia pulled the hosts level in the 55th minute, finishing from close range after a defensive miscue from Detroit City FC in the box. Nine minutes later, Gerald Díaz put Miami ahead, landing a confident strike to the top corner off a ball from Alessandro Mile.
Head coach Danny Dichio responded with a flurry of attacking changes to chase the game, and the pressure paid off late. In the 89th minute, Kobe Hernández-Foster delivered a beautiful feed to Tommy Silva who drove it past the keeper, to level the match at 2-2; a pivotal moment to register his first career goal for DCFC.
Le Rouge continued to push in stoppage time and drew a foul deep in Miami territory, setting up a kick from Hernández-Foster. On that attempt, the ball struck a Miami defender’s arm inside the box, resulting in a handball and a penalty for Detroit City. Chisom Egbuchulam stepped to the spot, but Room produced a strong save to turn the shot away, a key moment in an impressive performance from the Miami goalkeeper that ensured the hosts held onto a point.
With the draw, Le Rouge remain in the Eastern Conference hunt, but this performance raises the bar for what’s expected in upcoming fixtures to keep their position among the top of the table.
