Detroit City FC returns to Keyworth Stadium on Wednesday, June 24, for a crucial USL W League contest against Midwest United FC, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET in Hamtramck. Le Rouge enters the midweek fixture firmly in the Great Lakes Division title picture, and with both sides inside the top three, the stakes will be clear under the lights at historic Keyworth Stadium.
Through eight matches, Detroit City sits second in the division on 14 points with a 4-2-2 record, riding a blend of organized defending and balanced attacking play, a profile that has kept them within touching distance of first place. Only Union FC Macomb sits above them in the standings on 16 points from eight matches, meaning a positive result on Wednesday would keep Detroit City’s title ambitions very much on track as the season enters its decisive phase.
Midwest United arrives at Keyworth as another key contender, currently holding third place on 12 points from nine matches with a 3-3-3 record. Their season has been defined by fine margins, with 13 goals scored and 12 conceded. That balance underscores how competitive their campaign has been. A win in Hamtramck would pull Midwest United level with Detroit City on points, while also providing a valuable head-to-head edge in what is shaping up to be a crowded race for playoff positions.
Earlier this season, Detroit City and Midwest United shared the points in Grand Rapids, playing to a 1–1 draw that capped an all-road week for Le Rouge. Erin Rasmussen opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a composed breakaway finish, and goalkeeper Allison LaPoint turned in a standout performance with 11 saves for Detroit City worked to protect the lead. Midwest United, however, found a late equalizer in the 88th minute through Ava Lutke, denying Detroit all three points.
Detroit City enters Wednesday night’s matchup on the back of a strong run of form, taking 10 points from its last five outings thanks to a 2-0 road win at Kalamazoo FC, a comprehensive 6-2 victory away to AFC Ann Arbor, and a hard-fought 2-2 draw at home against Union FC Macomb at Keyworth Stadium.
