Cleveland, Ohio — It was a dominant 90 minutes for Le Rouge that saw them create chance after chance but could not find the goal they needed as they left Cleveland disappointed with only one point.
Detroit immediately established themselves as the dominant side with key chances falling to Washington and Hannah Crum in the first five minutes of the game.
As the match settled Le Rouge found themselves with the majority of the possession as they were tasked with breaking down a defensively disciplined Cleveland.
In the 25th minute, Kayla Addison found herself in Cleveland’s 18-yard box firing a shot that glanced off Cleveland’s post as Le Rouge nearly opened the score.
Le Rouge only continued to put pressure on Cleveland’s 18-yard box. In the 37th, a cross from Tefend nearly found Sabo at the back post for what would’ve been a guaranteed goal.
The final action of the first half saw Kate Childers line up a shot from 20 yards out that demanded secure hands from the Cleveland keeper.
In the second half, Le Rouge continued to dominate the exchanges, creating a huge chance in the 49th minute when Crum found Addison at the back post as Addison’s effort glanced just wide of the post.
Just 13 minutes later it was Addison again creating problems as she got on the end of a Tefend cross fashioning a shot on target that called on a big save from Cleveland’s keeper.
In the 65th minute, DCFC would have two more huge chances to take the lead. A one-on-one with Addison would be halted by a sweeping clearance from Cleveland’s keeper. Moments later another long shot effort from Childers would fly just wide of Cleveland’s post.
Ten minutes later, Drew Martin would find herself on the top of the 18-yard box firing a shot on target that was met by a diving save from Cleveland’s keeper.
The match’s final ten minutes only saw Le Rouge create more dangerous chances that went begging.
In the 82nd, Adelle Francis found Addison in the box whose effort would call on another impressive save from Cleveland’s keeper. Just 5 minutes later Addison would get her final chance to open the scoring in a one-on-one with the Cleveland keeper who once again produced a remarkable sweeping clearance.
Detroit City returns to action this Saturday at Keyworth Stadium when they face Midwest United with kickoff set for 7 PM, The women’s team will be the second match of two this Saturday with the Men’s team kicking off at 4 PM against Charleston Battery FC.
