Flint, Michigan – Detroit City FC is set to begin its 2024 USL W League season on Saturday evening, on the road to last year’s Great Lakes Division champions, Flint City AFC in a 7 PM kickoff from Atwood Stadium. This is Le Rouge’s third year competing in the USL W League and fifth year fielding a women’s first team.
In 2023, Le Rouge started their W League campaign at home to Flint City AFC, a match that would end in a tightly contested 0-0 draw at Keyworth Stadium. Then, just seven days later, Detroit City traveled north to Flint and would take another point away from the eventual division champions in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Atwood Stadium.
Le Rouge will be under the leadership of David Dwaihy for the second year in a row and he and his experienced squad will be looking to build on last year’s record of 5-3-4 and will look to secure a playoff berth for the first time in the history of the women’s team after just narrowly missing out last season.
Notable returners from 2023 for Detroit City FC include forward Kayla Addison, Avery Peters, Lily Jeakle, and Dani Stephan. The Le Rouge roster is also bolstered by the return of six players who played for Le Rouge prior to the 2023 season: Ally and Kate Childers, Tatiana Mason, Megan Miles, Acadia Murphy, Isabella Sabo, and Megan Miles.
Four newcomers have been announced so far for the 2024 season with Lilley Bosley, Allie Tefend, Claire Ciarlino, and Fatima Nasser all looking to make their mark on the squad and help it get over the playoff line.
Following the conclusion of tonight’s match, Le Rouge will return home for their 2024 USL W League home opener, welcoming Flint City AFC to Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, May 18 in a 7 PM kickoff.
