Kalamazoo, Michigan – A strong second half at SoccerZone in Portage propels Detroit City FC over Kalamazoo United FC, 9-4, in the club’s first away match in the Premier Arena Soccer League. Le Rouge’s record improves to 5-0-1 on the season.
It was a tight start to the first quarter as both sides grew into the game with the hosts finding success when playing long balls over the top, a tactic they would employ often throughout the match.
The first goal of the match came for Le Rouge with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter when Bella Sabo battled hard to retain possession along the boards before creating a dangerous cross which was tapped in for an own goal off of a Kalamazoo United defender. Nearly immediately, Kalamazoo would recover and go down the other end to find an equalizer. 1-1.
Out of the first media timeout, with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter, Kalamazoo would create a numerical advantage for themselves in an advanced position and would capitalize with a strong strike to take a 2-1 lead, their first and only lead of the match.
With less than two minutes to go in the first quarter, a scrum in the box would lead to the ball coming out to #11 Claire Ciarlino who would hit it first time with power into the top left corner of the net to draw level at 2-2 going into the first intermission.
Things would fall apart for Kalamazoo United at the start of the second quarter after they allowed Kayla Addison to reclaim the lead for Le Rouge, 3-2, after making no mistake when through on goal. Then, just four minutes later, Kalamazoo United received a blue card for a tackle that resulted in a penalty kick for Detroit City FC. Tatiana Mason dribbled past the keeper to make it 4-2.
The half would end with a 5-4 scoreline as Kayla Addison took advantage of a mishap from the Kalamazoo defense and two quick goals from the hosts.
Detroit City FC put the match to bed in the third quarter, extending their lead to 8-4 after really impressive attacking play including goals from Amanda Britain (assisted by Dani Evans), and Kayla Addison (two). Bella Sabo would add Le Rouge’s ninth goal with 8:34 remaining in the match.
Next up for Le Rouge will be a rematch with Detroit Waza on Saturday, March 2. The match will take place at the Detroit City Fieldhouse and Detroit City FC will be looking for a result similar to their 15-1 win over Waza on 2/17.
