He is the current head coach for the men’s program at Adrian College and has been a top-level youth coach at Detroit City FC West since 2016. Miles holds a USSF B License for coaching and has also been involved with Detroit City FC pre-professional teams in the past, having served as the Assistant Coach for the Detroit City FC Women’s team (2021) as well as the Head Coach of the Detroit City FC West U23 team (2022).
“I am grateful to Trevor James and Detroit City FC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this staff. I’m looking forward to building a young, exciting team that will be competitive in the upcoming UPSL season while developing individuals that can serve our first team,” Miles said.
“The addition of a reserve side further solidifies our commitment to designate resources for the continued development of local Detroit players. DCFC II will help us to secure a talent pipeline for the future of the club as well as to make sure we are putting the best possible product on the field game in and game out for our Championship side in the present,” said Trevor James, Detroit City FC Sporting Director.
“We are equally happy to be able to rely on the talented pool of local coaches within our affiliate youth clubs to help move the club forward. Charlie has been within the DCFC organization for several years now and understands the club culture and the importance of his role as a development phase coach,” said James.
In addition to the UPSL Spring season, Detroit City FC II will compete in the USL Academy League this Summer for the second year.
“We have made great progress every year in building out our development system since our club joined the professional ranks,” said Tyler McManus, Director of Youth Development at Detroit City FC.
“DCFC II is going to be a new and exciting infrastructural addition to our player pathway system, both on the men’s and women’s side. Our goal is to have authentic integration between DCFC II teams and our first teams regarding staff and player personnel. With the men’s team participating in both UPSL and USL Academy, we can open new doors into the future of player development at our club, and we’re very excited to have Charlie Miles at the helm to lead the men’s reserve team into that future.” said McManus.
The UPSL Spring season is set to kick off in early April, and the USL Academy League is scheduled for June.
