Detroit, Michigan — Detroit City FC is off to a great start in their inaugural season in the Premier Arena Soccer League after beating Great Lakes FC by a scoreline of 5-1 in front of a sold-out crowd at the Detroit City Fieldhouse.
The match started off at a breakneck pace, with both sides enjoying spells of possession that saw them play on the front foot, attacking their opponents third of the pitch.
Despite this start coming from both sides, Le Rouge found themselves able to carve out tangible chances.
This would all come to a head with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter as forward Kayla Addison was played through on goal after assisting her teammate in a press, leading to a turnover from the visitors. Addison found herself through on goal, 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper, and made zero mistakes to give Le Rouge the lead, scoring the clubs first ever goal in arena soccer.
Detroit City would hold onto this lead until the final five minutes of the half, where the visitors would pounce on a bad giveaway between the Le Rouge backline to claw level at 1-1.
Then, just two minutes later, the game turned on its head. Substitute Claire Ciarlino was able to pick the ball up around midfield and go on a stunning solo run, which saw her take a strike to give her side the lead before the half.
Le Rouge wasn’t done yet. Immediately after kickoff, they would win the ball yet again, and Bella Sabo picked out a clever ball across to Tatiana Mason who extended the lead to 3-1 before the break.
Out of the break, Le Rouge would continue to dominate play, dictating the events of nearly the entire third quarter, which culminated in Katie Coleman scoring the 4th goal for Detroit City, following up with a neatly tucked finish after her original effort was saved by the keeper.
Then, in the final quarter of play, Kayla Addison would score her second goal of the evening with a clever back heel to bag her brace, securing Woman of the Match honors.
Detroit City FC next takes the pitch on January 20 when they welcome Zoo City FC to the Detroit City Fieldhouse. Tickets are available online at just $5. The match kicks off at 8 PM and will be streamed on the club’s YouTube channel.
