Louisville, Kentucky – After a stunning upset last week, Detroit City FC continues its playoff run this Saturday when they travel down to Louisville, Kentucky, to face off against Louisville City FC. Louisville is the higher-ranked seed, giving them home field advantage at Lynn Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM Eastern and will be streamed live on ESPN+ and broadcast on TV20 Detroit and FOX47 Lansing.
Detroit comes into this game after the 1-0 upset victory against #1 seed Pittsburgh Riverhounds last Saturday night. It was DCFC Academy product Dominic Grasso’s shot from 22 yards out in the 78th minute that was the ultimate decider in the match. Nate Steinwascher made three crucial saves in stoppage time to ensure Detroit’s victory. The win became Le Rouge’s first USL Championship playoff victory in only their second season in the league.
Louisville City came into the playoffs as the #5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Louisville faced off against Memphis 901 FC in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals last weekend. After finishing 1-1, it would take penalties to decide who would go through, and it would be Louisville winning 5-4 after a Memphis miss on their final penalty.
These two teams have met two times this season, with both teams winning their home game.
Detroit traveled down to Louisville in April, and Louisville came away with a 1-0 victory after a Wilson Harris goal in the 80th minute propelled Louisville to victory.
The two faced off once again at Keyworth Stadium in July, and it was Detroit coming away with a 2-0 victory. Ben Morris got the scoring started early in the 5th minute, and a Sean Totsch own goal in the 60th minute clinched the three points for Detroit.
The winner of this match will go on to face off against the winner of the Charleston Battery Birmingham Legion FC match in the Eastern Conference Finals.
