Detroit, Michigan – Detroit City FC is excited to announce the 2024 USL Academy Cup Program! The program will consist of four teams selected through a two-step tryout process and then travel to Tampa, FL to compete in the USL Academy Cup. The annual competition sees top youth teams from around the country representing USL member clubs to compete in a 4-match, 4-day tournament.
There will be FOUR teams, 18 players on each roster, representing Detroit City FC at the USL Academy Cup, this year held March 14, 15, 16, & 17. Each team will play one match per day, (Thu-Sun) with a guaranteed four matches played at the competition.
Teams will be:
U13 Boys (Includes birth years 2011-2012)
U13 Girls (Includes birth years 2011-2012)
U15 Boys (Includes birth years 2009-2010)
U15 Girls (Includes birth years 2009-2010)
“We are very excited to invite the best players from the region to compete for a roster position on one of the Detroit City FC USL Academy Cup teams,” said Tyler McManus, Director of Youth Development and lead of the USL Academy Program.
“In collaboration with all of the Detroit City FC Youth Clubs, (City, Downriver, Genesee, North, South Oakland, and West) we are creating a highly organized and competitive tryout process in an effort to find the best players in the region to represent Detroit City FC down in Tampa this Spring.”
OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS! The Detroit City FC USL Academy program is a supplemental development program that participates in the USL player pathway for the 2024 USL Academy Cup (U13 & U15). The Detroit City FC USL Academy program is open to ALL players for tryouts. Players who participate in the Detroit City FC Academy still retain their registration with their current youth club.
USL Academy is a sanctioned Olympic Development Program through the US Soccer Federation. Players will hold their registration status with their current youth club and, if selected to the roster, represent Detroit City FC in the USL Academy.
TRYOUTS:
STEP 1: Players MUST apply for tryouts and be invited by a Detroit City FC youth club to attend a USL Academy Cup ID Center. Only players who receive invites will be permitted to attend a USL Academy Cup ID Center.
STEP 2: After each ID Center, Detroit City FC youth clubs will make player recommendations to Detroit City FC for players to attend the USL Academy Cup Camp Tryout: January 2, 3, 4 @ High Velocity (Canton). Detroit City FC will send invitations out to a selection of 30 players based on the recommendation of each of the five ID Centers to attend the final USL Academy Cup Camp Tryout.
STEP 3: Players who are invited to attend the USL Academy Cup Camp Tryout will train over the course of three days. At the conclusion of the event, Detroit City FC will select 18 players to be rostered on the USL Academy Cup teams.
USL ACADEMY CUP ID CENTERS: All events are FREE to attend. Events are by invitation only. Interested families must complete an application for the ID Center that works best for their family. Players cannot attend more than one ID Center.

USL ACADEMY CUP CAMP TRYOUT: Final tryout for players. Invitation only based on recommendations from the USL Academy Cup ID Centers.
January 2, 3, 4 (evenings @ High Velocity in Canton).
TRAINING SESSIONS – Training sessions will begin Friday, January 12th, and begin as once a week. Beginning in late February and into early March, a few Wednesdays and Sundays will be added in order to prepare for the USL Academy Cup.

February: 2, 9, 16, 21, 23, 25, 28
March: 1, 3, 6, 8
USL ACADEMY CUP: March 14-17 (Thursday-Sunday) in Tampa, FL. Wednesday, March 13th will be a travel day to Tampa and Monday, March 18th will be a travel day back to Detroit.
PROGRAM:
- 12 training sessions, 2 friendlies, 4 tournament matches
- Head Coach & Assistant Coach + Goalkeeper Coach
- Travel Costs = TWO flights (player+guardian), 1 hotel (2 bed). Does not include food or ground transportation.

FINANCIAL AID:
Detroit City FC is committed to making financial aid available for application based on a sliding scale of household income. If your player is selected for a roster position, the application and process for financial aid will be made available in the registration.
