Detroit, Michigan – Detroit City FC hits the road to face off against Indy Eleven in a game that will significantly impact both teams’ push for the playoffs. With only three games remaining, every point will be crucial for Detroit City if they want to qualify, as they currently sit in the 8th and final playoff spot. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM Eastern and will be streamed live on ESPN+ and broadcast on TV20 in the Detroit area.
Detroit City is coming off a 3-0 loss this past Wednesday against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for Le Rouge on Wednesday night as they played their game in hand. Two backline miscommunications led to two Colorado Springs goals, ultimately two major pieces in Detroit’s downfall.
All hope was not lost with the loss, though. Even though Detroit did not gain any points from their game in hand, they held on to the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Detroit City still controls its own destiny to make the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs. Although there are scenarios that they can still make it by dropping points in the final three games, the simplest and easiest way for Detroit to qualify is to win their last three games.
Indy Eleven comes into this game from a 1-0 loss to Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday night. The Eleven is currently on a three-game winless streak, having yet to claim all three points since their match against Miami FC on September 2. Indy comes into this game sitting in 6th place on 42 points with a goal difference of plus-four.
These teams faced off at Keyworth Stadium in Matcheweek 3 of this USL Championship season. It would be Indy Eleven walking away with a 1-0 in that matchup. Bryam Rebellon’s 62nd-minute goal was the deciding factor in the game.
Last season saw Detroit City FC claim all three points away to Indy thanks to a header from Connor Rutz in just the fifth minute of play.
