Detroit, Michigan – Following a 4-1 loss on the road on Tuesday night, Detroit City FC is again facing off against Midwest United FC in the USL W League on Friday evening, this time at Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM and the match will be streamed on Eleven Sports and YouTube with local broadcasts being available on TV20 (Detroit) and FOX47 (Lansing). Tickets are still available for Friday’s match at this link.
Dave Dwaihy’s Detroit City FC side will be looking to avenge Midwest United FC for their tough loss on Tuesday evening. In a match that saw Le Rouge generate a good amount of dangerous attacking chances in the first half, Detroit City would go into the half trailing by a scoreline of 2-0.
Out of the break, Detroit City FC would press on for a goal to bring them back into the match. Their goal would come in the 67th minute when midfielder Syd Blomquist stepped up to a free-kick right outside of the 18-yard box. For the second time in two matches, Blomquist placed the free-kick in an inch-perfect location to cut the deficit to just one goal.
The belief for Le Rouge would only last a short time as Midwest United were able to add two more goals to their tally to claim all three points by a scoreline of 4-1.
Detroit City FC will look to build off of their last match at Keyworth Stadium, coming against AFC Ann Arbor on 6/3 when they would be on the positive end of a 4-1 scoreline. Le Rouge was helped by a masterclass of a showing from the experienced Blomquist who was able to score a brace to ensure all three points for Detroit City FC in front of nearly 4,000 at Keyworth Stadium.
With how tight the schedule is in the USL W League, a win on Friday evening for Detroit City FC is much needed as they currently sit on the outside looking in for the race to the playoffs and they will need results to go their way elsewhere.
Following Friday’s match, Le Rouge will travel to Cleveland to take on Cleveland Force SC on Wednesday evening before hosting the table-topping Flint City AFC at Keyworth Stadium next weekend. A huge match for Detroit City FC’s playoff hopes, tickets are available at this link.
