Detroit, Michigan — Detroit City FC is back home this weekend, welcoming last year’s USL Championship Playoff Champions, San Antonio FC, to Keyworth Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM and the match will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on TV20 in the Detroit area. Tickets for tomorrow’s game are available here.
Le Rouge wants to bounce back from a difficult evening in Tampa Bay, losing 5-1 to the Rowdies. Tampa started the scoring early, finding themselves up by a scoreline of 2-0 after a quick brace from forward JJ Williams. Detroit City FC would claw a goal back to make it 2-1 thanks to a perfectly-placed free kick by midfielder Abdoulaye Diop, his second goal in as many matches.
The comeback from Detroit City FC would end there, though as Tampa Bay quickly got back to their best, making the score 4-1 by the time the halftime whistle sounded. JJ Williams would complete his first-half hat trick.
Detroit City FC would play better in the second half but the damage was already done and they would lose by a score of 5-1.
This weekend Le Rouge welcomes San Antonio FC, their first-ever opponents in the USL Championship last season. San Antonio FC is coming into this match hot, fresh off of a 7-0 blitz of the Charleston Battery who sit atop the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship.
It was a historic outing for San Antonio’s Tani Oluwaseyi who became only the second player in USL Championship history to record three goals and two assists in the same match on Saturday. It was Oluwaseyi’s first start for San Antonio FC only recently joining the club on loan from Minnesota United FC. He played 13 minutes for Minnesota United FC in their Round Three US Open Cup win at Keyworth Stadium on 4/25.
San Antonio FC would go on to win the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs, defeating Louisville City FC of the Eastern Conference in the final by a score of 3-1.
Following Saturday’s match, Detroit City FC’s next home match is on Saturday, May 27 at 4 PM as Birmingham Legion FC comes to town, the match is the first of a doubleheader at Keyworth Stadium with the USL W League squad taking on Kalamazoo FC that evening at 7 PM. One ticket gets you into both matches and they can be purchased here.
