Detroit, Michigan – Detroit City FC are at home once again on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Rio Grande Valley FC of the USL Championship Western Conference to Keyworth Stadium for a 4 PM kickoff. Le Rouge will be looking to shake-off a difficult loss last weekend in their home opener to Indy Eleven which saw the conditions play a huge factor in the outcome of the match. Detroit City FC had a few flashes of dangerous and clever passing sequences but they were all extinguished by the Indy Eleven backline.
Fans of Detroit City FC celebrated an early strike by Connor Rutz which found the back of the net but the official on the near side had his flag up for offside. They would drop this contest by a score of 1-0 thanks to a clever second half free-kick routine which saw the visitors break the deadlock.
Rio Grande Valley FC travel to Keyworth Stadium following a consistent start to the season which sees them sit on three points from three games. All 1-1 draws.
Last season saw Rio Grande Valley FC make it into the playoffs where they would lose by a score of 3-0 in the first round of the USL Championship Playoffs with three, late, heartbreaking goals. All after the 84th minute.
Detroit City FC will be without Yazeed Matthews on Saturday as he will be serving his one-match suspension following a double yellow card against Indy Eleven last weekend. Le Rouge received good news early in the week as Ben Morris returned to training following visa issues. Morris is eligible for selection tomorrow afternoon.
Following tomorrow’s match, it’ll be a quick turnaround for Le Rouge who are back home again on Tuesday as they welcome Gold Star FC for the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM and tickets are available at this link.
