DETROIT, Michigan – In the hunt for home field advantage in the playoffs, Le Rouge will be away again this Wednesday against 1st place Louisville City of the Eastern Conference. This game will be played at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky at 7:30pm, with streaming and broadcast available on TV20 and ESPN+.
This will be their third match-up of the season, with the first coming in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 and one league game. In the U.S Open Cup meeting, City lost in penalty kicks and was unable to advance to the Round of 16. In league play on August 20th, DCFC lost 1-0 on a PK goal in the second half by defender Sean Totsch.
This past Saturday, DCFC played Loudoun United at Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia that ended in a dominating 4-0 win for Le Rouge and earned them three important points. The first goal came off a nice passing sequence of play down the right side of the field which ended with forward Yazeed Matthews taking a shot outside the box and scoring the first goal of the evening at the 8’ minute mark. The assist came to midfielder Cy Goddard, who had a nice give and go with Matthews. With his first goal of three on the night, midfielder Maxi Rodriguez slotted the ball to the bottom right corner, after nice pressure on the ball from midfielder Abdoulaye Diop. Forward Francis Atuahene passed a through ball to Rodriguez to take a 2-0 lead. In the 66’ minute, City scored on a set piece. Forward Antoine Hoppenot took the corner that found the head of defender Matt Lewis, who was able to get it to Rodriguez, who then headed it into the net for his 2nd goal of the evening. Rodriguez’s hat-trick goal came when Hoppenot was able to draw the Loudoun goalkeeper out of the net and then passed it to Rodriguez who was easily able to score.
Detroit now has a 14-12-6 record, which has them currently sitting in fifth place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference, 12 points off first place Louisville City. They are just one point off the fourth place Birmingham Legion who currently hold the final home field advantage spot for round one of the USL Championship Playoffs Presented by Hisense.
Midfielder Maxi Rodriquez earned a hat trick in the Loudoun game for the first league hat trick in the club’s Professional Era (2020-Present). He has scored nine league goals this season and he is now leading the club in that category. He has created 37 chances this season which is good for second on the team in league play.
Cy Goddard tallied his first assist for Le Rouge last time out as he assisted the game winning goal in the first half. He was announced as a new signing on July 26th, and he has played in five matches, starting two of them.
Louisville City FC sits at the top of the Eastern Conference in first place, with 66 points and a record of 20-6-6. In their past five games, Louisville City FC have a record of 2-2-1. Their two wins came against Loudoun United FC (4-2) and Rio Grande Valley FC (1-0). They had two draws, coming against FC Tulsa (2-2), and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (0-0). Their lone loss was versus Memphis 901 FC (2-1).
Forward Wilson Harris has played in 29 games this season for Louisville and his 14 goals has him tied for 7th place in the league. He also has 62 shots this season, placing him in a tie for 9th place. Harris has also had a team leading 36 shots on target and 115 aerial duels. He has created seven chances and has a passing accuracy of 67.7%.
Forward Brian Ownby has also played in 29 games this season and has 61 shots (11th place), has nine goals (tied for 27th place) and has created 45 chances (24th place) in league play. He also has four assists this season and a passing accuracy of 69.1%. Three times this season Ownby was named to the Team of the Week including Weeks 2, 18 and 19.
In his 31 games played this season, defender Wesley Charpie leads the team with 1,526 passes, 62 clearances and 14 blocks. Charpie has a passing accuracy of 82.8%, has had 36 interceptions and won 104 duels. He was also named to the Team of the Week once this season for Week 6.
Le Rouge will be back home on October 15th for their final league game this season playing at Keyworth Stadium where they will take on Miami FC at 5:00pm. The game will be streamed on TV20, FOX47, CW46, CW7, and ESPN+.
