Addison Finds Late Equalizer for 2-2 Draw Versus Kings Hammer
Detroit City FC roared back with two second-half tallies after falling behind early to remain unbeaten at Keyworth in 2022.
HAMTRAMCK, MICHIGAN – An unbelievable comeback thanks to tremendous pressure late into the second half by Detroit City Football Club (1-3-3), in its first home fixture since May 12th, ended in a 2-2 draw versus Kings Hammer FC (0-2-4), at Keyworth Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
City went down 1-0 early into the first half in the 11’ minute, with Kings Hammer getting on the board first with a goal from forward Olga Massambo. Massambo received a pass to the middle, splitting two City defenders and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Bethany Kopel.
Just six minutes later, forward Annie Green battled to win the ball and just from outside the box bent a ball right inside of the post for Hammer’s second goal of the game, taking a 2-0 lead.
Detroit started to ramp up the pressure in the second half – starting with forward Kenna White almost getting City on the board, missing just to the right of the post in the 60th.
Just 10 minutes later, DCFC finally got on the scoreboard with a fantastic goal from forward Syd Smith, who received a cross from forward Ellie Pool and was able to get the ball up under the bar from close range.
City didn’t let up, hitting the crossbar in the 88th minute hunting for the equalizer. With the final moments of stoppage time ticking away, Le Rouge won a corner kick for one final attempt. Defender Shannon McCarthy placed the ball perfectly in front of the net to waiting forward Kayla Addison, and she connected with a header into the back of the net for her first of the 2022 campaign.
A dominating shot total by City through 90 minutes with 21 but only three going on target, to Kings Hammer’s nine total and three on frame.
The next game for Le Rouge is Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30 pm against AFC Ann Arbor at Keyworth Stadium.
