DETROIT, Michigan – The Detroit City Football Club looks to extend its unbeaten streak to nine as Le Rouge hosts the New York Red Bulls II at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, April 30. Kick off is set for 4 pm ET on ESPN+.
Captain Stephen Carroll was the hero last time out, finding the back of the net in stoppage time for his second tally of the season. DCFC has recorded nine match winners after the 75th minute since Trevor James’ arrival in 2019 – six coming since 2021. The 2-1 victory over Hartford Athletic propelled City to third in the Eastern Conference table behind Louisville City and Pittsburgh.
Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez was named to the USL Championship’s Team of the Week for the second time this season (team of the week – week three v Pittsburgh). Rodriguez completed 55 of 67 passes and recorded the assist on right back Deklan Wynne’s equalizer – Wynne’s first goal since coming to Detroit this season. Rodriguez had two shots and created four chances while also making four interceptions and nine recoveries.
Le Rouge has surrendered just four goals thus far in 2022, tied with San Antonio FC and Louisville City atop the league in the stat. DCFC has not allowed multiple goals in a match this year and hasn’t since Nov. 20, 2021 (at the Michigan Stars – W, 3-2). Under Trevor James, Detroit City has allowed more than one goal in a match just seven of the Gaffer’s 80 matches with the Club.
Through week seven of the 2022 season, DCFC ranks second in the USL Championship with an average team rating of 7.2 (Colorado Switchbacks at 7.3). Seven Le Rouge players earned ratings inside FotMob’s Top 100 players in the USL Championship this week. Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez leads the way for City, coming in at 6th. Left back Rhys Williams rounds out the top 10 and has been ranked every week this season.
NY Red Bulls II enter this weekend 13th in the Eastern Conference with a mark of 1-1-5. The Red Bulls have only scored four goals this season and have given up eight. In the last five games, New York is 0-1-4 with a 1-1 draw versus the Tampa Bay Rowdies last time out. The Red Bulls are one of the more penalized teams in the league, being whistled for 104 fouls this season – 10th in the league – along with receiving a league-high four red cards.
Forward Jeremy Rafanello leads the Red Bulls in multiple categories including the number of goals (2), shots (11) and shots on target (5). Both of his goals were scored outside of the box. Playing in all seven games this season, midfielder John Murphy has one goal on the season, an assist and 10 shots with four on target.
