DETROIT CITY FC MEN WIN TENSE FALL SEASON OPENER:
The crowd of over 6000 at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday night were treated to a very entertaining match in Detroit City FC’s fall season opener with NISA newcomers Chicago House Athletic Club coming to visit. Le Rouge was looking to continue the momentum they’ve had all season and coming off of a strong performance in the NISA Independent Cup were looking to get their fall season off on the right foot.
Detroit City FC started the game off well, dominating possession early on and this led to a few chances and eventually culminated in a penalty kick which was to be taken by #19 Pato Botello-Faz but Chicago’s keeper did well to make the save and deny Detroit City FC the opening goal. Chicago House Athletic Club would ride the momentum of this save into scoring the opening goal of the evening and finding themselves up 1-0 at Keyworth Stadium after 25’ minutes after a quickly taken free kick.
This lead would not last long, though, as in the 30th minute, #2 Jimmy Filerman whipped in an incredible ball which found the head of a leaping #15 Matt Lewis who was able to guide the header into the back of the net and level the match at 1-1. Le Rouge kept their foot on the gas after the equalizer and won yet another penalty but this time it was taken by #21 Maxi Rodriguez who calmly slotted his shot into the bottom left corner to give Detroit City the 2-1 lead which they would carry into halftime.
Three minutes after the break, a dubious penalty call was given to Chicago House Athletic Club and #1 Nate Steinwascher got a small touch on it but the placement of the penalty was too precise and Chicago House leveled the game at 2-2. As the second half continued, Le Rouge’s quality would begin to shine and the visitors started to look fatigued.
Then, as he did in the NISA Spring Season opener, #4 Anthony Manning put the game on ice and scored a header, following a scramble in the box following a corner to put Le Rouge up 3-2 in the 88th minute. This lead would be held onto this time and Detroit City FC would claim all three points and start the NISA Fall Season off with a win.
#4 Anthony Manning was named the GoogleFi Man of the Match for his game winning goal in the 88th minute. Detroit City FC are back in action next Saturday in Irvine, California when they face off against Cal United Strikers on the road.
The Detroit City FC Men’s First Team are back at home on August 21, 2021 when they welcome 1904 FC to Keyworth Stadium, tickets for that match can be found here.
