PONTIAC, Michigan – The Detroit City FC men’s side secured its first point of the 2020 NISA fall season with a 0-0 draw against the Michigan Stars on Friday night at Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac.
Le Rouge entered the match looking to bounce back from its lone loss of 2020, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chattanooga FC last Saturday at Keyworth.
The first half was played evenly between the two sides. The Stars had the best opportunity of the half in the 42nd minute, but goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher turned away the chance.
Detroit City engineered several threatening runs in the first five minutes of the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
With possession heavily favoring City to start the second, momentum swung after midfielder Michael Kafari was sent off near the 60th minute with a straight red card.
Le Rouge’s back line was up to the challenge. Other than a few corners, the Stars were unable to generate any serious scoring threats with the man advantage, while defender Steve Carroll – the Man of the Match – continued to push City’s attack despite being a man down.
Detroit City tallies its first point of the campaign. The Stars notched their second-consecutive draw after an opening victory against Chattanooga on August 8.
Up next for DCFC is another away fixture – a trip to New York to square off with the Cosmos next Saturday in Uniondale. First kick is slated for 7:00pm. The Cosmos come off a 3-1 victory over New Amsterdam this weekend.
