2020 Men’s Roster | #WatchCity | WeFunder – Be An Owner | League Table
DETROIT, Michigan – The Detroit City FC men’s side opens NISA fall play on Saturday, August 15, with Chattanooga FC. Kickoff from Keyworth Stadium is slated for 7:30 pm.
After making its professional debut in Los Angeles on February 28, Le Rouge is back in Hamtramck to host its first NISA league match at home – a 169 day gap from the 2-0 victory over the Force.
On the heels of the club’s Be An Owner campaign that saw more than 3,000 individuals invest to hit the federal cap of $1.07 million in just five days, no foe would be better fitting to kick off this next chapter for DCFC than Chattanooga FC – a fellow supporter-owned club.
Detroit City enters the fall as the Great Lakes region champs of the NISA Indepentent Cup – notching a pair of 3-0 victories over Cleveland SC and FC Buffalo. Shawn-Claud Lawson and Connor Rutz netted a tally apiece in both efforts. Ryan Peterson and Yazeed Mattews also found the back of the net as the City defense continued its strong play from the spring contest against the LA Force, posting three-straight clean sheets in 2020.
Le Rouge signed seven players this week – welcoming back Ryan Peterson (forward) from the 2019 squad and Elijah Rice (forward) from the 2017 NPSL Midwest region championship team. Also joining the roster is Jean Antoine (goalkeeper), Jimmy Filerman (defender), Travis Bowen (forward), Ibrahim Conteh (midfielder) and Benedek Tanyi (midfielder).
Chattanooga was featured in NISA’s fall opener against the Michigan Stars on August 8. Ian McGrath was the lone goal scorer for CFC, finding the equalizer on a penalty kick, but the Stars responded in the 88th minute with the game-winner.
Chattanooga took all nine points in its region of the Independent Cup, defeating Soda City FC, Savannah Covers and Georgia Revolution.
The broadcasts of the club’s remaining matches will feature a telethon supporting the Club’s Be An Owner campaign produced in partnership with the Planet Ant theatre company, as well as Former Co. and Aninterval. Detroit City FC matches can be streamed around the globe at https://www.detcityfc.com/watchcity.
Due to the state's existing Executive Order related to sporting events, fans will not be permitted to attend.
Neal Ruhl, the voice of Le Rouge, John Kreger and Daniella Bruce will be on the call. Due to NISA’s exclusive rights with mycujoo, matches this weekend and during the fall season will not be simulcasted to Facebook and YouTube.
