An out-of-this-world performance from Detroit City FC in New York led to a 2-1 win over the New York Cosmos at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY.
The top of the table clash between two undefeated sides saw DCFC overtake Cosmos in the Members Cup standings. Detroit sits in first place with 22 points and two games to play, and Cosmos sit in second place with 19 points and one game left.
Cyrus Saydee opened the scoring in the eighth minute off a layoff from Yazeed Matthews. Saydee’s rocket of a strike to the upper right corner of the net was his second goal of Members Cup play and put the visiting team up, 1-0.
Yazeed Matthews doubled the lead in the 30th minute off the free kick from Danny Deakin. Matthews’ deft touch and finish gave Detroit the 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The Cosmos cut the lead to 2-1 in the 82nd minute off a goal from Matt Lewis, but it wasn’t enough and Detroit left town with all three points.
The win means DCFC remains unbeaten in Members Cup action. Detroit visits Michigan Stars on Wednesday, October 16 before ending the Members Cup season at home on Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 PM vs. Milwaukee Torrent. Tickets for the match can be purchased at tickets.https://www.detcityfc.com.
