Detroit City FC lost a hard-fought matchup against FC Juarez, 3-1, in an international friendly. The Boys played in front of 6,901 loyal fans at historic Keyworth Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Man of the Match went to Stephen Carroll, who led the squad from his defender position and played all 90 minutes, helped maintain and control the game. Carroll made a few stellar defensive plays that saved goal scoring opportunities.
The Boys started the match strong as Bakie Goodman and Danny Deakin had control of the middle of the field. Forward Shawn Lawson started the scoring off, from a cross from Max Todd in the 17th minute. Lawson was able to control the cross and deliver a shot that went passed FC Juarez’s goalkeeper.
FC Juarez soon after took control and dominated most of the possession throughout the half, as they were able to get 2 goals in the 36th and 38th minutes. The score at the half was 2-1.
DCFC did not score in the second half, but were able to get a few chances from Danny Deakin. The Boys fought hard and played some strong defense, only giving up one more goal in the 65th minute.
Goalkeeper’s Owen Finnerty and Hunter Morse split halves and both provided a solid performance in the back of the net.
Detroit City FC will go on the road next to face Kalamazoo FC on Saturday, July 13th. Kickoff is at 3:00 PM.
