Detroit City FC earned its fourth win of the season with a dominating 5-0 performance over FC Indiana. 6,910 fans attended historic Keyworth Stadium on Friday evening, which was the largest crowd of the season.
Man of the Match went to Max Todd, who led the squad from his midfield position and contributed one goal and two assists. Strong passing and controlled possession helped the boys go on to victory.
Midfielder Bakie Goodman started the scoring off with an early goal in the 6th minute, off a cross from midfielder Cyrus Saydee. Goodman was able to control the pass and drive a shot past FC Indiana’s goalkeeper. The Boys in Rouge controlled the tempo for most of the first half, but were only able to get one goal in.
The second half was a different story for DCFC as they were able to get 4 more goals passed FC Indiana goalkeeper. Forward Shawn Lawson started the onslaught for City, as he scored off a deflection in the box in the 47th minute. The goal was assisted by Max Todd, who delivered a shot that was deflected by the keeper.
Scoring continued for DCFC as Max Todd scored his second goal of the evening in the 56th minute, from a beautiful shot from about 25 yards out. Fans erupted after Todd’s goal and gave the Le Rouge a 3-0 lead.
In the 65th minute, Cyrus Saydee shot from the top of the box and went passed FC Indiana’s goalkeeper to make it a 4-0 led for the boys. Saydee’s goal was assisted by Shawn Lawson, who set up the opportunity.
DCFC was able to score one more late goal to push the led to 5-0. Forward Santiago Agudelo scored off a header from a corner kick in the 67th minute, which was taken by Max Todd and his second assist of the game.
Goalkeeper Owen Finnerty continued his stellar performance in the back of the net and recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season.
Detroit City FC will stay home to host the Michigan Stars on Friday, June 14. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available for $12 at tickets.https://www.detcityfc.com and will be $15 at the gate on matchday.
