Coming off of a 0-0 draw at home against first-place AFC Ann Arbor on Friday night, Detroit City FC were in need of three points when it visited FC Indiana on Sunday afternoon.
The Boys in Rouge delivered, with a 5-0 rout over 10-men Indiana that saw five different scorers for Detroit.
City moves to 2-1-1 on the season and currently sits in second place in the NPSL Great Lakes Conference with 7 points.
Moussa Gueye of Eastern Florida State College opened the scoring on Sunday in the 7th minute, heading home a perfectly placed corner from Danny Deakin.
Le Rouge controlled possession throughout the rest of the first half, and Indiana went down to 10 men after an altercation broke out following a challenge on City’s Abdoulaye Diop – also of Eastern Flordia State College. The scuffle resulted in a red card for Indiana’s Anthony Diaz and a yellow for Diop.
The floodgates opened in the second half, with City taking advantage of man advantage and scoring three goals in eight minutes.
Danny Deakin notched his first goal of the season off a cross from Oscar Gonzalez in the 66th minute, with Will Perkins of Michigan State and Shawn Lawson adding to the goalscoring mayhem in the 70th and 74th minute, respectively.
Duke’s Daniel Wright scored his first of 2019 in stoppage time off the assist from Max Todd.
Detroit returns home to Keyworth Stadium this Sunday, June 2 at 5 PM when it hosts FC Columbus.
