DETROIT CITY FOOTBALL CLUB OPENS SEARCH FOR NEW HEAD COACH
DCFC thanks head coach Ben Pirmann for six years of service
Detroit City Football Club today announced that DCFC and head coach Ben Pirmann are parting ways on good terms.
A search for Pirmann’s successor is currently underway and the club has convened an advisory group to assess a large portfolio of qualified candidates to manage its professional roster in 2019. There is no immediate timeline for naming a new head coach.
Pirmann assumed head-coaching duties in 2013 and led Le Rouge for six seasons, compiling a 49-17-17 league record.
“Ben’s commitment and passion helped DCFC reach heights we couldn’t have imagined six seasons ago, and he leaves the club with our utmost admiration,” DCFC CEO Sean Mann said. “We are thankful for his contributions and wish him all the best.
“We are actively searching for the right coaching staff to lead DCFC during this new chapter for our club and soccer in Detroit. This is not a process that is being taken lightly, with our focus on finding the right candidate who understands our club and community and is going to be best positioned to field a championship team.”
Pirmann led City to a regular season title (2013), a Midwest Region Championship (2017) and three NPSL playoff appearances (2013, 2015, 2017). He orchestrated two spectacular runs in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating PDL-side Michigan Bucks in penalty kicks in the first round of the tournament in 2016 and 2018, before taking USL’s Louisville City to penalty kicks and then-USL-side FC Cincinnati to extra time in the second round in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
“Trying to put into words the emotions I feel about Detroit City Football Club is a daunting task, but I would like to personally thank Sean Mann and the rest of the ownership group for the unwavering support for myself and my family, and for always putting this club and its community first,” Ben Pirmann said. “Coaching Detroit City has been one of the best life experiences and it has been truly humbling to lead this organization.
I am very proud of what we accomplished on the field, but also every day with the positive impact in so many lives throughout the world. The best is yet to come for City, its players and staff members, the supporters and the community. I cannot thank the players, the technical and front office staff and the amazing supporters enough for allowing me to be a part of it.
“Paige and I are extremely excited for the next chapter in our lives. We are sad to be moving away from our City family, but are eager for what’s to come.”
