Detroit City FC today announced it will host Club Necaxa of Mexico’s Liga MX for an international friendly match at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Mich., on Tuesday, July 10.
The international match marks the first time DCFC will host a first-division side at Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff for the match is set for 7:30 PM ET.
Club Necaxa will be the first Liga MX team to visit Michigan in decades.
Based in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Club Necaxa has won Liga MX – which is considered to be North America’s strongest soccer league – three times, with its last championship coming in 1998.
Necaxa is managed by Ignacio Ambríz, who made 283 appearances for Necaxa during his playing career and earned 64 caps for the Mexico national team from 1992-95. He captained Mexico during the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
Of the notable players who call Club Necaxa home are Ventura Alvarado, a defender for the U.S. national team; Brayan Beckeles, a defender for the Honduran national team; and Matías Fernández, a midfielder for Chile’s national team.
Liga MX features a split-season format, with Apertura (summer) and Clausura (winter) seasons. Currently, Necaxa sits in 6th place in the 2018 Clausura table.
The July 10th friendly will be Le Rouge’s second international match of the season. Details on DCFC’s first international match of 2018, which is set for Saturday, May 19 at 6 PM ET, will be released at a later date.
Club Necaxa joins the growing list of City’s international opponents hosted at Keyworth. In the past two seasons, Le Rouge has welcomed FC United of Manchester and Glentoran FC, of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

While DCFC’s Gold Card premium season ticket package sold out in only 72 hours, its standard season ticket option, the City Card, is still available for purchase. The City Card starts at just $80 and grants entry to all 12 home matches in 2018, including DCFC’s international friendlies.

General admission tickets for DCFC vs. Necaxa are $15. Gold admission tickets are $25, and VIP section tickets are $75. Tickets for the international friendly will go on sale on March 1, in conjunction with all 2018 single match tickets.
