Detroit City FC is pleased to announce Ben Pirmann will return in 2018.
Head coach since 2013, Pirmann has shepherded the team through five successful campaigns, leading Le Rouge to a 44-12-15 record in National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) play.
In 2017, Pirmann coached City to a 9-2-3 regular season record in the NPSL Great Lakes Conference, which included a 9-match winning streak. He led Le Rouge to its deepest playoff run in history, defeating Duluth FC and Dakota Fusion FC before defeating AFC Ann Arbor, 3-2, to capture City’s first Midwest Region championship.
DCFC hosted its first national semifinal at Keyworth Stadium on August 5, 2017, where it fell to Midland Odessa FC in penalty kicks.
“I am thrilled to be back as coach of Detroit City FC,” Pirmann said. “Working alongside our family of owners is something that has helped me develop as a coach and as a person.
“I am so passionate about this club, this community and all that we represent. I can’t wait to get back on the field with an exciting group of players and staff. Last summer was our best year in team history, and I hope we can continue to push forward both on and off the field.”
Pirmann’s technical staff will also return in 2018, with technical advisor Klaas de Boer, assistant coach Jordan Andrews, assistant coach Josh Rogers and goalkeeping coach Bret Mollon all retaining their roles with DCFC.
Pirmann is an assistant coach for the Michigan State University men’s soccer team, where he works alongside Mollon and former Le Rouge coach Cale Wassermann.
“Ben embodies the heart of Detroit City FC, and we value the commitment, passion and talent he and his staff bring to the organization,” DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said. “We’re excited for another historic year as we continue to raise the profile of our club on the pitch.”
