Detroit City FC takes on Windsor TFC in its annual friendly this Wednesday at Keyworth Stadium at 7:30 PM.
DCFC’s 2017 Black Arrow MVP will be announced at Wednesday’s friendly.
This will be the sixth annual end-of-season meeting between the two clubs. Detroit leads the series with two victories (‘13, ‘16) compared to Windsor’s one (‘15). The teams have also tied twice (‘12, ‘14).
Windsor has been around since 2004 when it was founded as the Windsor Border Stars. They competed in the Canadian Professional Soccer League and Canadian Soccer League (CSL) for the majority of its history, winning two Open Canada Cups in both 2004 and 2005.
After the de-sanctioning of the CSL by the Canadian Soccer Association, Windsor joined League 1 Ontario in 2014. In 2016, the Stars announced a partnership with MLS side Toronto FC. Windsor currently sits in fifth place in the league’s west division.
For Le Rouge, Wednesday’s friendly serves as a tune-up right before its NPSL National Semifinal showdown against Texas-based Midland-Odessa FC this Saturday night at Keyworth Stadium.
DCFC has had a busy last couple of weeks, knocking off Dakota Fusion, Duluth FC and AFC Ann Arbor in the Midwest Region Playoffs. They now look to regroup and retool before heading into another critical playoff weekend.
