Detroit City FC will face #2 Duluth FC this Friday at 8 PM in the second semifinal of the NPSL Midwest Region Playoffs hosted at Keyworth Stadium.
As champions of the North Division, Duluth (8-4-2, W-T-L) entered the playoffs as a two-seed and were one of two teams to earn a first-round bye.
Without a bye, City had to play its way into the region tournament last Saturday night. Le Rouge did so by defeating North Division runners-up, Dakota Fusion, 5-1, in front of 6,672 supporters at Keyworth Stadium.
Duluth has won five matches in a row, with its last loss on June 21st. Duluth’s last result was a 9-2 rout of Sioux Falls Thunder.
The winner of this match will play in the Midwest Region Final against the winner of #1 AFC Ann Arbor and #6 Dayton Dynamo FC, who play in the first leg of the semifinals Friday at 5:15 PM at Keyworth.
The stakes are the highest they have ever been for City this season. Despite two convincing victories last week, including a playoff win and a win over a Serie B club Venezia FC, Detroit’s toughest challenge awaits against a red-hot Duluth team.
Tickets for both Friday matches cost only $10 and are available for purchase here. Fans are encouraged to purchase a weekend pass, which is just $15 for all three playoff matches.
