It’s playoff time.
Detroit City FC faces Dakota Fusion in the first round of the NPSL Midwest Region Playoffs this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Keyworth Stadium.
Detroit (9-3-2, W-T-L) is hot off its 2-0 victory over Serie B Italian-club Venezia FC, which drew over 5,400 supporters at Keyworth on Tuesday night.
Head coach Ben Pirmann said he was pleased with his team’s performance against Venezia and hopes to play shutout soccer again this Saturday.
“We defended well,” Pirmann said. “Fernando [Piña] made some good saves. [Zach] Bock was great back there. Kervin [Kenton] played really well. I told the guys in the locker room I wanna play shutout soccer.”
This will be the first-ever meeting between Detroit and Dakota. The Fusion (9-0-5) are located in Fargo, North Dakota, and finished their inaugural season as runners-up in the North Division, earning the fifth overall seed in the Midwest Region Playoffs.
Dakota won its final match of the season, 5-3, over the Minnesota TwinStars to secure its playoff berth. The Fusion are currently on a three-game winning streak dating back to July 5th.
DCFC’s regular season was one of its most memorable in club history.
Despite opening the season 0-2-1, DCFC went on a tear, winning nine matches in a row to secure its playoff spot before the final week of play.
Building off a come-from-behind draw to Lansing and shutout victory over Venezia, City now hopes to carry its momentum into its first playoff appearance since 2015.
It’s do or die for Le Rouge this Saturday night, and DCFC is expecting a full house come kickoff. Secure your spot for the first-ever playoff game at Keyworth Stadium here.
